AN INNOVATIVE leadership programme has honoured its first group of graduates.

Led by Professor Brian Morgan, the 20Twenty Leadership Programme, at the Cardiff School of Management (Cardiff Metropolitan University) is a unique programme specifically designed for developing and enhancing leadership skills among small and medium size businesses in Wales. It is aimed at aspiring leaders, managers, directors and business owners.

The 10 month course begins with an in-depth analysis of the participant’s current status both as a leader and business. The Leadership Programme aims to develop business skills and leadership qualities to help participants grow their business successfully. Delivered at post-graduate level through workshops, action learning groups, master-classes, mentoring and coaching, the course involves 15 direct contact days, focussing on current business issues and case studies.

30 people completed the most recent programme and over half graduated with either a Postgraduate Certificate from Cardiff Met, a Certificate from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) or both. The graduates were presented with their certificates by Cardiff Metropolitan University Vice Chancellor, Professor Antony Chapman.

20Twenty graduate, Chris Purdon, Owner and Director, The Clyvedon Press Ltd, said:

The 20Twenty Leadership course has been crucial in helping me to assess and develop The Clyvedon Press.

“As a sole trader, I have found 20Twenty invaluable in developing new ways of thinking, marketing the business to existing and potential customers, and creating a strategic growth plan that has had a significant impact on the profitability of the business. I would unhesitatingly recommend it to any entrepreneur or SME”.

Speaking about the programme, Professor Brian Morgan, Director, Creative Leadership and Enterprise Centre, said: “The ultimate aim of the 20Twenty Leadership is to help participants develop a three-year growth strategy for their business. All the workshops and assignments are based around the needs of the business in driving sustainable growth. This is what makes this programme different from other leadership development programmes - it provides sustainable results for participant’s businesses, with tangible benefits.”

Professor Chapman said: “I would like to congratulate all the graduates of the 20Twenty programme. Cardiff Metropolitan University has provided the academic underpinning and experience to deliver this programme and to take forward a key part of the Welsh Government’s objective of creating a more competitive business sector.”

The programme is currently recruiting its fourth cohort which begins in May 2012. A free ‘Taster Workshop’ is available for those wanting to find out more about the programme.

The 20Twenty Leadership Programme is also offering a scholarship for the programme in 2012.
